Last night on Spike TV was the Facing Ali documentary. Being a fan of Muhammad Ali and boxing for that matter, I found it intriguing. I enjoyed the look back of what we consider the greatest of all time. The many names Ali fought gave good insight on what it was like to be in the ring with him. Smokin’ Joe Frazier was pretty dead on of what I would guess the details were. When Ali squared off with George Foreman I learned quite a bit. Ali wasn’t as young and sharp as he used to be. Foreman was the new Heavyweight Champion after shocking the world by defeating then champ Joe Frazier. Many picked Foreman to beat Ali with ease. Much like when he fought Sonny Liston the first time. When Muhammad knocked Foreman down, his corner said stay down then get back up. By the time the corner said get up it was too late. Ali won the title once again. This documentary probably will only appeal to hardcore fans of Ali or boxing. I learned a history lesson here that Hollywood can’t teach in the Ali movie.
