Floyd Mayweather Jr is a boxer who has taken some heat over the years. Actually, he has throughout his undefeated career. He is criticized for taking on easy opponents and ducking major ones. I wouldn’t call them all easy opponents. Sure, some of the bouts were questionable. For example, when he took on Carlos Baldomir for the WBC Welterweight belt. Baldomir is a tough fighter, but this fight was in the bag for Floyd. More recently, he fought Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez was a bit small for Mayweather as boxing fans analyzed. The size and speed were all to apparent in the ring that night.
For the record, Mayweather has taken on some top notch boxers. Examples are De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, the late Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo (twice), Zab Judah and the late Arturo Gatti. Despite all of these great names I believe Floyd’s toughest opponent will come in May.
Shane Mosley has been itching for a crack at Mayweather for awhile now. Finally, Shane’s wish comes true this May. When the anticipated Mayweather-Pacquiao bout fell through the world was disappointed. I feel this is the great equalizer. It may not be what all the fans want to see but it will do. Mosley is a true welterweight; He has fought at Junior Middleweight a handful of times too. As the title of this post states, it is gut check time for Mayweather. If he overcomes Mosley then the critics should be silenced. We will see what happens.
