It was announced to the boxing world that Floyd Mayweather Jr will return to action from a long layoff. September 17th is the set date for his return. Against Manny Pacquiao? Well, not quite. Victor Ortiz is his opponent. Ortiz last fought Andre Berto in an exciting fight where Ortiz received the unanimous decision victory. Floyd last fought Shane Mosley in May of 2010.
This fight will be for Ortiz’ WBC Welterweight Title. Many fans of boxing are stating Mayweather is taking this fight as a warm up for Manny Pacquiao. Ortiz fights southpaw as well as Pacquiao. I couldn’t agree more, it is no coincidence. Although, Victor Ortiz is naturally right handed, he fights in the southpaw stance.
I will never rule out anyone in a fight, anything can happen. However, I believe Floyd will add another win and still be undefeated. Ortiz will make Floyd feel a little uncomfortable because of his stance, as did Zab Judah. Mayweather will adapt and take the fight over. Floyd becomes the WBC Welterweight Champion and eyes a mega fight with Manny Pacquiao in the future.
