no lockout? lockout?

All the buzz in the NBA lately has been the lockout for the 2011-2012 season. Normally an NBA season starts in October but due to this collective bargaining agreement which covers many issues. Issues like the draft, personal conduct, the NBAPA, contraction, salary cap, etc.

From viewing this video, it seems like the main problem is lack of profitability. The player’s salary is too high for the larger market teams like the Miami Heat and the league is trying to solve this. The smaller market teams are not very profitable. Teams like the Portland Trailblazers and the New Orleans Hornets are struggling even if the franchises are well run. The NBA is trying to focus on revenue sharing to aid the smaller markets, so everything balances out.

I do hope that everything will be settled in time so that the season starts on time, if not a bit late. I cannot see the whole season being canceled. If this is the case, we may see guys retire and or play overseas. It has been known that a few guys have been interested in playing in international leagues. Lets hope for the best.
